Most people buying an iOS device don’t fully understand how much of the price they are paying is not the cost of the device but the cost of being locked into an ecosystem where Apple takes money out of every transaction with third parties.

This article is based on a large number of one-sided unproven assertions, such as that all third-party app stores would do a worse job than apple of protecting customers. I’d love to see the market open up to allow app stores that focus more on protecting children, or on auditing features that apple doesn’t audit. This can’t happen under the current monopoly, and may no longer be possible given that the market has evolved under the monopolistic regime.

(And no, you can’t use the Android environment as a stand-in, as it has a different customer base. Since privacy-oriented customers went with Apple as the best-available option, selling privacy to the Google base might not have been as viable a business.)
